The HP 334A distortion analyzer is a solid state instrument for measuring distortion on ac voltages. It measures total distortion down to 0.1% full scale at any fundamental frequency between 5 Hz and 600 kHz. The 334A includes two control loops that automatically tune both legs of a bridge circuit that rejects the fundamental when the rejection circuit is initially set within the range of the loops. Harmonics are indicated up to 3 MHz. The distortion characteristics can be monitored at the OUTPUT connectors with an oscilloscope, a TRMS voltmeter, or a wave analyzer. Noise levels as low as 25 µV can be measured. The voltmeter inside the 334A can be used separately for general purpose voltage and gain measurements.
The 334A includes automatic fundamental nulling and amplitude modulation detection.
The 334A RF detector is untuned and accepts RF signals >1 V within a range of 550 kHz to 65 MHz. In the broadcast band (550 to 1600 kHz), the detector introduces less than 0.3% distortion into signals carried on 3-8 Vrms carriers modulated 30%.
