Your ad titles
Used-Line’s search engine searches the titles of ads, not the description. It is essential that your ad titles are labeled in a way that will help visitors find your product when conducting a search. Ask yourself what a buyer might put into the search bar when looking for your item, and make sure that your title reflects their search terms.
Changing your ad titles
Featured & Special Offer Ads
If you post your ads manually with Used-Line’s Featured or Special Offer Ads, then you have complete control over what is included in the title, and can edit the title of each individual ad.
Large Package Listings
Scanned by the Robot: For listings that are uploaded by our robot scanning your URL, any change in the title needs to be made in the source URL.
Spreadsheet: If no “Title” column is found in your spreadsheet, our system will use the first few words of the description to create the title of the ad. You can add a column with the heading "Title" and the system will use that instead.
Note:
Any automatically uploaded ads (via robot or spreadsheet) can be manually edited in My UL by selecting the Manual Edit Mode option. Selecting this option will discontinue any updates via robot or spreadsheet for that ad, and will leave the ad completely in your control.
Including images in your listing
For Featured & Special Offer ads, you can add up to 5 images with a maximum size of 6 MB each. When creating or editing an ad, use the Upload Images interface at the bottom of the form to add images to your product’s listing.
For automatically uploaded ads (via robot or spreadsheet):
- When our robot scans your listings automatically, it will use the first photo of the item found on the item’s listing page.
- If you are using a spreadsheet to upload your listings, insert the image path (URL) in the column entitled "Picture." To obtain the image path (URL) of your product, go to the listing on your website or any website where the product is hosted with a picture. Right-click on the picture and select "Copy Image URL" (or the equivalent, depending on your browser). Then insert this URL into the spreadsheet. For more information on spreadsheets, please view Spreadsheet Instructions at this link.
Note: Please do not copy and paste the image itself into the spreadsheet.
Placing Featured Ads
You can purchase Featured Ads by visiting our Sell page or speaking with your Used-Line rep.
Featured Ads are listings that appear towards the top of Used-Line search results, have a yellow highlighted background to attract attention, and can contain up to 5 images per listing (maximum 6MB per image). Featured Ads can uploaded and edited manually by the user.
There are two ways to feature an ad. One way is to upload the listing manually. You can do this by logging in to your account, and then selecting Place Featured Ads. From there, simply fill in the information and click Save.
You can also feature one of your automatically uploaded ads by selecting the Feature This Ad option alongside your ad under the Manage Ads tab inside your account.
Setting prices or “Ask for Price"
A common question that is asked is whether it is optimal to include a price or not. If you do not include a price, the listing will simply say "Ask for Price" in the price column. Our observation on this topic is that when you list a specific price, it pre-qualifies the lead and filters out bottom feeders. Additionally, the price of your product for sale is usually at the top of a potential buyer’s list of considerations. If a buyer sees “Ask for Price,” they may move on to the next ad.
What does it do?
The Used-Line robot is the system that visits our dealer’s websites and automatically uploads their inventory to Used-Line, without any effort on their part. This process is also known as spidering. The robot will then determine the equipment category for Used-Line’s search engine and catalog the listing accordingly in our database.
How often does the robot scan?
The scanning frequency is typically once every 24 – 48 hours, and may be adjusted depending on your preference.
Spidering options: URL or Data Feed
For automatic upload of your inventory directly from your website or online store, simply provide us with the URL. Our robot will spider your equipment and upload it according to the parameters showing on the website.
If you want to maintain more detailed control over your listings, you can create a data feed for our robot in XML or HTML. Click HERE for detailed instructions on how to structure your data feed.
Adding the In-Stock Icon to your listings
You can purchase the In-Stock Icon by speaking with your Used-Line rep.
We offer a paid feature that places a very visible In Stock label alongside your listings. This is a great way to draw attention to your equipment and encourage customers looking for an immediate purchase. If you only want certain listings to be labelled "In Stock," then you must indicate these listings:
- For Featured Ads, you can simply check the box that says "In-Stock."
- If you are emailing us a spreadsheet, then place a "1" or the words "In Stock" underneath the column entitled "In Stock" in your spreadsheet.
- If our robot is scanning your listings, then let us know how we should instruct it to determine which listings are in stock. Having the words "in stock" on the item’s page on your website is one available option.
Premium Ads - bringing you qualified traffic
You can purchase Premium Ads by speaking with your Used-Line rep
Used-Line offers a service to enhance your ads in a way that brings high quality visitors to your website. If you have a website with separate product pages, Premium Ads will bring buyers directly to the page of your item - on your website.
Each item you list on Used-Line will have a very noticeable, clickable image of your website linked to the specific item’s page on your website. We have seen a 30% increase in click-throughs when dealers upgrade their listings with Premium Ads.
Used-Line has been in the technical equipment business since 1999 and has amassed a huge opt-in email list. You can purchase custom Email Blasts to target between 5K – 40K subscribers. We also feature banner ads in our Newsletters, which go out to well over 40,000 subscribers.
Homepage banners and inside page banners on Used-Line can also give your company huge exposure and show everyone that you are major players in the industry.
