The National Instruments PCIe-8432/2 (Part Number: 781744-01) is a 2-Port, PCI Express based, Serial Interface Device designed to provided isolated, port-to-port connectivity with RS232 devices. This model comes with one DB-9 male connector as the main I/O connector. The NI PCIe-8432/2 offers 60 VDC (CAT I) continuous isolation and 2000 Vrms withstand port-to-host isolation. While operating in standard conditions, the PCIe-8432/2 draws 55 mA of current at +12 VDC and 610 mA at +3.3 VDC. However, the maximum amount of current this model can draw from the two above mentioned voltage sources is 160 mA and 650 mA.

The National Instruments PCIe-8432/2 Serial Interface Device offers up to 1 Mbps serial transfer rate. This Serial Interface Device has a PCI Express form factor, weighs around 91 grams, and has physical dimensions of 11.12 × 16.67 cm. To offer high-speed transfers, this model comes incorporated with DMA technology. This model additionally supports multiprocessors and multithreading. With DMA enabled devices, the user can achieve better transfer rates because the scheme information flows directly between the I/O device and the main memory. Thus, the CPU remains out of loop and does not become overloaded.  Moreover, this device also has a dedicated 128 B transmit and receive FIFO capacity, which is compatible with Modbus Serial.
