National Instruments PXI-8464/2 PXI-CAN Interface
The NI PXI-8464/2 (Part Number: 778783-02) is a 2-Port, Software-Selectable PXI-CAN Interface featured with up to 1 Mb/s 100% load receiving capability, ISO 11898 physical layer, and a Philips SJA1000 CAN controller. It also has an Intel 80386EX microprocessor specifically for timed CAN frame transfer. This model provides real-time LabVIEW support. The NI PXI-8464/2 can be acquired in high-speed, low-speed, and single-wire versions and is compatible with transceivers TJA1041, TJA1054A, and AU5790. It has a maximum transfer rate of 1000 kb/s.
This CAN Interface has a 9-pin male D-Sub (DB9) connector for each of its 2 ports. This connector is compatible with the pinout recommended by CiA DS 102. When used with a low speed/fault tolerant CAN hardware, the NI PXI 8464/2 can communicate with devices up to 125 kb per second. However, in its single-wire configuration communication with devices at rates up to 33.3 kb per second is possible. With the NI PXI 8464/2, the user can also implement multiple-transceiver hardware for applications with an involvement of different communication standards. The device has a typical current of 900 mA.
The NI PXI 8464/2 can easily be used with NI-CAN software for programming and importing CAN channel database files as well. NI-CAN software offers two different interfaces (APIs) for application programming, which are channel and frame. These programming interfaces can easily fulfill the user's requirements across testing and simulation. The channel API is designed to provide access to the CAN bus in easy-to-use engineering units by using channels. Thus, it simplifies multiple device synchronization and integration. On the other hand, with the frame API, the user will be provided with lower-level access to the CAN bus. Therefore, it will become easy to read and write raw frames on the network. The device hardware can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. The NI device measures 6.3 x 3.9 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C.
PXI 8464/2 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the interface will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
