The 89431A downconverter is an RF section for the 89441A signal analyzer. (It is also a tuner for other instruments.)

The 89431A can convert an 89410A DC - 10 MHz vector signal analzer to an 89441A DC - 2650 MHz vector signal analyzer.

The 89431A can be controlled externally as a stand-alone instrument through its EIA-564 port (same as RS-232 but with a 9-pin sub-D connector). The EIA-564 port is on the rear panel (Serial 2).
