The PXI-8511 (Part Number: 780686-01) is a fault-tolerant Controller Area Network Interface for the improvement of applications with the NI-XNET controller. This PXI CAN Interface Module has 1 port. The PXI-8511 functions admirably in applications that require fast continuous control of hundreds of frames and CAN signals, such as hardware simulation in the cycle, quick prototyping of control, bus monitoring, control of computerization, and more. The DMA motor controlled by the NI-XNET gadget empowers the inner processor to move frames and CAN signals between the interface and the client program without interferences in the CPU, limits message latency, and liberates the time of the principle processor to process models and complex applications.

The NI PXI-8511 offers NI-XNET interfaces, which work perfectly with most legacy NI-CAN Channel API and NI-CAN Frame API applications composed for legacy NI Series 2 CAN and USB CAN interfaces. The NI-XNET NI-CAN compatibility layer works at the driver level, guaranteeing a drop-in execution boost to established in-house applications without time-consuming code refactoring and recompiling. The NI-XNET NI-CAN compatibility layer does not work well with NI 986x NI-XNET interfaces or with applications composed for USB-LIN.

The NI-XNET driver software natively works with FIBEX, CANdb (.DBC), LDF, and NI-CAN (.NCD) signal database files. With the database model built into the driver, the tedious task of scaling byte-level frames into genuine engineering units is offloaded from the host program, which simplifies programming and maintains results as network configurations develop over the design of the framework.
