Description  

The HP 8770A arbitrary waveform synthesizer creates completely arbitrary waveforms from dc to 50 MHz by use of a super-fast digital-to-analog converter. This circuit can plot computed-amplitude points to create totally arbitrary waveforms using 8 ns width pulse. The HP frequency-agile technology also makes it possible to hop from one frequency to another in the time it takes to move to a different sequence of 8 nanosecond pulses. The design is directly focused on signal generator performance standards, and the arbitrary waveform synthesizer far exceeds ordinary fast DAC performance in signal-to-noise ratios and harmonic generation.
