The NI PXI-8187 is a state-of-the-art integration between a microprocessor and almost all standard and extended PC peripherals. The National Instruments PXI-8187 comes with specialized software tools, which allows the user to recover the factory condition of the hard drive from a small, designated area of their hard drive. This protected area stores an image of the hard disk as it was provided at the time of delivery. The user can access that image by using a hotkey during the boot process of the PXI-8187. Besides, the user can also recover the factory-installed OS, using the included operating system installation disc with an external CD-ROM. In some cases, the user may want to replace the default operating system with a different operating system.
The NI PXI 8187 allows the user to install any compatible operating system through a USB CD-ROM. In some cases, the user can also consider installing an OS from a network. This Embedded PXI Controller 3U-size module requires 1 system slot and 3 expansion slots.
The device operates using the NI-DAQ driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, and NI-VISA. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0–55 °C.
PXI-8187 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
